What Tankblick does not do
No account. No tracking, no analytics, no ads. No background requests.
The app talks to exactly one server: creativecommons.tankerkoenig.de. Your location leaves the device only as a coordinate pair in a search you started yourself. Favourites, settings and prices stay local, and price history is deleted after 30 days.
You need your own API key
Tankerkönig issues keys per person, and a key hidden inside the app could be extracted anyway. Register for free at onboarding.tankerkoenig.de — first name, last name and email address are required. Keys are reviewed by hand, which can take a few days. A demo key is available in the app for trying it out.
Your key is encrypted with AES-256-GCM in the Android Keystore and excluded from cloud backup.

New: the title bar now says how old the prices on screen are and carries a
button to reload them. Until now that took the invisible pull gesture, and the
age of the data sat at the very bottom below the list.
Anti-Features: NonFreeNet(this application promotes/depends a non-Free network service):
⇒ The app depends entirely on the Tankerkönig API, which is not open source. This build ships a shared API key so it works right away; that key is rate limited across everyone using it, so heavy users should register their own at onboarding.tankerkoenig.de and enter it in the settings.
While you can download the APKs here directly, you should preferably use an F-Droid client so the app stays up-to-date on your device.
